Kaporal. A name, a K, a city. For over twenty years, this Marseille brand has established itself as one of the essential references in French denim.
Origins: Marseille, the cradle of French denim
It all began in 1979. The Mc Lem family, entrepreneurs from Marseille, created a company specializing in denim trading. For more than a decade, they supplied wholesalers and manufacturers, at the heart of what was then a true industrial hub for garment manufacturing in France.
At the turn of the 1990s, competition from Asian production disrupted the sector. The Mc Lem family pivoted, refined their expertise, and silently accumulated unique knowledge of denim fabrics, cuts, and finishes.
2004: the birth of Kaporal
Building on this experience, they launched the Kaporal brand in 2004. A clear DNA: impeccable cuts, sophisticated details, a spirit drawn from American vintage but rooted in the energy of the South. The logo — the famous winged K — immediately established itself as a recognized symbol throughout France.
The rise: from denim to complete lifestyle
Kaporal quickly expanded its range: t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, down jackets, accessories. The identity remained consistent — urban streetwear, Latin spirit, accessible quality. The brand multiplied collaborations with designers and figures of French urban culture.
A strong cultural anchoring
For those who grew up in the 2000s and 2010s, Kaporal is more than a brand. It's a memory. The high school jeans, the first winter down jacket. A French Y2K aesthetic, accessible, authentic.
2026: Kaporal reborn
After judicial liquidation in March 2025, the brand was acquired by Distribrands Corp. Same DNA, new energy. The first collection is available now on kaporal.fr. And this is just the beginning.
